What will you do if you received a negative comment?
For me, I look forward to reading the comment on my blog every time I get back on the computer and surf the internet. The recent comments are the first part I will take a look on my blog. Getting comments on my posts is one of the most rewarding part of blogging and I will never turn it off. Don’t forget the first thing you want to do for your money making blog is gain traffic, and where does this traffic comes from? Your readers of course. Making your readers feel it is worth the visit in your blog is very important. Some of the main reason why you should allow comments is:
- A blog is a community. And members of a community talk with each other.
- A blog without comments is not a blog.
- Comments are your no1 communication tools for your blog.
- Your readers are your customer, without readers your blog is nothing.
I even start a Top Commenters Contest for the month of October to generate more comments and maybe some constructive discussions. I always take an example of diners in a restaurant, if the diners find your cooking is not up to the standard; do they have the right to complained? Yes! If they like it they most probably leave a tip. The same goes for a blog although it is not the same 100% situation.
But the question is, how do you react if some readers complained or whine about your blog or about a post that they don’t like? Do you delete it or reply it with your answers?
Before you answer that question, do read the following post:
- http://www.thatedeguy.com/archives/2007/10/are-you-talking-at-me-or-with-me
And yeah, of course you must filter out SPAM or self promotion in comments; otherwise you will get lots of crap comments.
I appreciate your feedback on this matter.

Thanks for the link. I really think that we as bloggers need to be very careful of making our readers think we don’t recognize that they are there. If we do that, we lose them and they stop reading. And as you state, without readers, we have no customers.

If I do receive negative comments, I might answer their comments without starting a flame war.

Yeah, I guess that’s what a comment section is suppose to do, to discuss the post. right?

it is most important not to ignore the negative postings if they’re constructive.
If someone took the time to explain why something is bad or whatever, respect that opinion and be glad someone took the time to tell you what he/she thinks!

If there is a flame war, that will be even better. Digg it by using the title “Most Childishness Discussion In A Blog”! You will get onto the front page very soon.
I will reply my negative comments nicely. If you noticed, negative comments often gives you new knowledge since you will be going out to research on the truthfulness.

Rajawang- Yes, even if it is a negative comment; it opens up new discussion and ideas which can only be beneficial to you. The ideas you get from it can give you insights on what blog posts you can write about to avoid writer’s block.
